II KINGS CHAPTER 17
1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began
Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.
2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings
of Israel that were before him.
3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his
servant, and gave him presents.
4 And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers
to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had
done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in
prison.
5 Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to
Samaria, and besieged it three years.
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried
Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of
Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their
God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of
Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
8 And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before
the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
9 And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right
against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities,
from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
10 And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every
green tree:
11 And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom
the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD
to anger:
12 For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do
this thing.
13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the
prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my
commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your
fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the
neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
15 And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their
fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed
vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them,
concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
16 And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them
molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of
heaven, and served Baal.
17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and
used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of
the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his
sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
19 Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the
statutes of Israel which they made.
20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and
delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his
sight.
21 For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of
Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin
a great sin.
22 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did;
they departed not from them;
23 Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his
servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to
Assyria unto this day.
24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from
Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of
Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt
in the cities thereof.
25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not
the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.
26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou
hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the
God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay
them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests
whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach
them the manner of the God of the land.
28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and
dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.
29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of
the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities
wherein they dwelt.
30 And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal,
and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their
children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them
priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high
places.
33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the
nations whom they carried away from thence.
34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD,
neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the
law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he
named Israel;
35 With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall
not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice
to them:
36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power
and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him
shall ye do sacrifice.
37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which
he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear
other gods.
38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall
ye fear other gods.
39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand
of all your enemies.
40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.
41 So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their
children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto
this day.
II CHRONICLES CHAPTER 28
1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right
in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images
for Baalim.
3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his
children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had
cast out before the children of Israel.
4 He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and
under every green tree.
5 Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria;
and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and
brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of
Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in
one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of
their fathers.
7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam
the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred
thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them,
and brought the spoil to Samaria.
9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out
before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the
LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your
hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
10 And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for
bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins
against the LORD your God?
11 Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken
captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
12 Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of
Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum,
and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,
13 And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we
have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to
our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against
Israel.
14 So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all
the congregation.
15 And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and
with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and
shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all
the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm
trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
16 At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
17 For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.
18 The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the
south of Judah, and had taken Bethshemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho
with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and
the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.
19 For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made
Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.
20 And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but
strengthened him not.
21 For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the
house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but
he helped him not.
22 And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD:
this is that king Ahaz.
23 For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said,
Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to
them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces
the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD,
and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
25 And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto
other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
26 Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they
are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in
Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel:
and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
EPHESIANS CHAPTER 3
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus
Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to
you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in
few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ
)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now
revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers
of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given
unto me by the effectual working of his power.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I
should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the
beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus
Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places
might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is
your glory.
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be
strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length,
and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be
filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or
think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world
without end. Amen.
PSALMS CHAPTER 46
1 To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A
Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the
mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake
with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the
holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and
that right early.
6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth
melted.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the
earth.
9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and
cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will
be exalted in the earth.
11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
